Temporary Fantasy

Sometimes I can’t help but thinking of the past
I try not to but it rears its head, time and time again

It’s lovely
It’s ugly
I’m regretful
I’m thankful

Sometimes I can’t help but wonder why life flies by so fast
Drifting out of sight like puddles absorbing the rain

I hesitate
I accelerate
It’s memorable
But I’m forgetful.

Sometimes my heart drifts away to scenes not meant to last
Floating on decisions from which I can never refrain.

Temporary fantasy?
Maybe a reality
Singing an age old song
Hope I don’t get it wrong

Like It Or Not

I lose my breath whenever I think of holding you
I keep my distance
I stay away
Far in the distance
Far away from you
Far away from me
Far away from what anyone can see
Far away from you and me

I’m graced by visions whenever I’m around you
Stay away from me
Just stay away
I won’t ever look back
Far away to you
Far away from me
Far away from whatever could be
Far away from you and me

I wish it could be different
I wish we could live the fairy tale
But fairy tales only end in heartache or tragedy
In the real world
And we both live in the real world
I never liked living in the real world
But it’s the world we both live in
Like it or not

It’s the world we both live in
Like it or not

Another Midnight

Another midnight passes into the hours of a soon forgotten day
Did I make an impression?
Was I a gateway toward a better place
Or just a slight intervention?

Another midnight now lost forever in the abyss of days long past
Was there any purpose
For the yesterday’s now faded to black
Where no light can ever be cast?

Another midnight letting memories slip through fractures in time
What was never meant to be
Thown away in an act of righteousnes
Only to commit the same crime

Too often our thoughts are a mystery shrouded in fantasy
Shadows hiding in the night
We’re left trying to decipher the symmetry
Between what’s wrong and right

Another midnight granting passage through what has past
Choosing what to remember
Left wondering about the here and now
And desires that weren’t meant to last

Too often we regret what we feel were our gravest mistakes
And stare off into the sun
Not knowing what would’ve or could’ve
Wishing for memorial retakes

Heads or Tails

A sense of loss leads one to wonder
What would it be like now?
It’s a dangerous place to venture
Because a mind will always wander
To the more beautiful possibilities
Even if it’s already beautiful now

Revel in the allure of what you are holding in your hand
Take the time to appreciate all that you have now
Realize that on the flip side of what might have been
Lies a darker possibility that your mind’s eye hasn’t seen

Heads or tails
Make your choice
The one you follow
Becomes your inner voice
It can be your savior
It can guide you well
It can drag your soul through hell

So take another sip of desire
Burying the regrets of yesterday
What was lost you should never admire
What’s been found should have the final say
Burn the rest in the fire

You read the words that ring so true
They seem so clear and simple
Such an easy thing to do
But they become an eternal struggle
An unattainable goal not meant for you
You’re only human
Yet still you try
But you’ll never stop questioning why

Sorry, yes, but you’ll not make a sound
Far easier to laugh and buy another round
Always knowing you are forever lost
Wondering if you even want to be found
Brother, where are you bound?

Heads or tails
Find your way
The trail before you
Leads to another day
It can dig your grave
It can help you to live
You will get back what you give

I Don’t Know Why

I don’t love you
I don’t want you
But I think about you all the time
And I don’t know why

We had our days in the sun
But that was so long –
So many years ago
Sometimes it seems like another lifetime
Or something that only happened in a dream
And turned into a nightmare

I don’t love you (anymore)
I don’t want you (anymore)
But I think about you when I close my eyes
And I don’t know why

We gave it the best we could
The best we knew how
We still needed to grow
There was no looking back when it was over
It was something that wasn’t meant to last
Leaving two hearts forsaken

I don’t love you (anymore)
I don’t want you (anymore)
But I need you when I close my eyes
And I don’t know why

Dwell

Dwell
You know it so well
The same old story to tell
Your own private hell
Where you can dwell

It was a bad fit right from the start
But we all need a hiding place
Where no one knows us
Because we still don’t know ourselves
So we run and hide thinking we’re so smart
Trying desperately to just keep pace
To our blind ambition and how we think we should be
But that isn’t who we see
When we look in the mirror

Dwell
Discarding the prize
Sandstorm burning your eyes
Subconscious lies
On which you dwell

Dwell
What you needed to do
It was too sudden and too new
You wonder if she knew
And if she dwells

You know it’s too late
Too late to say you’re sorry
It was always too late
Because it was never meant to be
It will always be too late
Always forever but never seen
Forever is never too late
To never say you’re sorry

Dwell
You know it so well
The same old story to tell
It’s only your soul you sell
So you can dwell
